Taking 3rd place with a very respectable 37 points was Rob Kirkham ahead of David Kinley with 39 points who lost out on a back 9 countback. The winner of the countback was Robin Dawson whose solid back 9 of 21 points was key to his victory. The weekly nearest the pin prize at the 10th, which was a 3 course Sunday Carvery for 2, was won by Robert Gardner.

Sunday’s Pro Shop Open and Winter League final round attracted 29 players on a fine morning. As with Saturday the best weather was early doors so all had set their alarms to make a prompt start and the competition was very close. The top 4 players all scored 38 points and after much counting back, Martin Cairney was the eventual winner. Martin is on a bit of a winning streak at the moment, he won the previous week’s Saturday Monthly Medal and also took the best gross prize. In 2nd was Nick Lyman and in 3rd was Stuart Wallace from Douglas Golf Club.

Now that all rounds of the Winter League have been completed, Lewis has deducted the lowest 4 round results and Ian Nicholson, as predicted, is the winner with 107 points. Chris Parker was in 2nd with 92 points. The full results table is on the Pro Shop noticeboard. The top prize is worth £100 in the Pro Shop and 2nd receives £50 in the Pro Shop.

Last Thursday, the women played their final 14 hole fun competition which was a stableford and was won by Cathie Crebbin with 29 points after a countback. In 2nd was Cath Travers and in 3rd with 28 points, after another countback, was Eirian Singer. The season starts next week with the March Monthly medal so hopefully it is a sign that spring is around the corner.

Rising Stars

Two of Peel’s former Junior members, Ana and Lea Dawson, are having great success off the Island both with golf and their education and are making the most of amazing opportunities. Ana is playing and studying in America at Memphis University. After settling in she has been travelling across the States representing the team every 2 weeks, gaining a 4th place finish in Missouri. The team have 6 tournaments this part of the season and will shortly travel to Augusta (not Augusta National unfortunately) where they are looking for a good finish to help them make the National finals in May. She’ll be spending the summer at Peel on the practice field and putting green and playing in the Ladies Amateur Championships in the UK.

Lea is attending 6th form at Rossall School near Fleetwood and is part of their golf academy. Rossall is the leading independent golf school in the UK and Lea is travelling all over the UK representing the school in tournaments. She is also representing England in the Home Internationals Schools at Celtic Manor this weekend before heading to St Andrews, Fairhaven, Delamere Forest, Formby and Pleasington to name a few before the summer season.

Peel Golf Club is rightly very proud of the ongoing success of the Dawson sisters and we wish them continuing good fortune for their future careers.

We held a very stylish wedding last weekend. The room was decorated by Finishing Touches Ltd and A3 Island Marquees and looked amazing. Guests were greeted with glasses of purple prosecco and then enjoyed a 3 course carvery, expertly prepared by Kyle and his team and everyone had a fabulous time. All best wished to the happy couple for a long and happy life together from all at Peel Golf Club.

Tuesday March 26th is the welcome meeting for the upcoming Juniors’ season. The new committee will be there so that you can meet them and they will explain how this year will work. Lots of new, exciting ideas to hear about, don’t miss it, it will be a great night.
